Is it possible to go back to a shop and ask for a VAT after making a purchase?

I'm a Canadian visiting France, and I just bought a Longchamp purse today. After making the purchase, I learned about the VAT, and I want to get my money back because the tax takes up a large part of the total.

The shop cannot refund the VAT. If it is refundable you must apply for a refund through whatever government office that handles refunds.
